This is not a comprehensive list of the tools that you might need or want to use. There are many ways to approach a job. This is simply the basic tools I had (or wished I had) on my project.
Strongly recommended / required tools for building a shed
Strongly recommended, as in if you need to dig a large hole, I STRONGLY recommend a good shovel, rather than a spoon.
• Circular Saw
• Drill & drill bits
• Hammer
• Level(s)
• Caulking gun
• Knife
• Chalk line
• 25’ tape measure
• Shovel (Ground prep)
• Painting Supplies (Roller or sprayer, tray, roller cleaner, mixer, etc.)
• Ladder(s) and stepping stool(s)
• Screwdrivers for who-knows-what along the way
• Framing square
• Speed square
• Gravel compactor (You can rent these)
• Clamps
Nice to have tools for building a shed
Nice-to-have, as in, if you need to dig a large hole, it would be nice to have an excavator, rather than a shovel.
• Pneumatic framing nailer (I could easily be convinced that this should go on the “Strongly recommended” list… Very easily… If you don’t have one, consider buying a used one on local classifieds and then sell it when you’re done.)
• Laser level
• Tool belt (Functional and fashionable!)
• Roofing nailer (I just used a hammer, but it would have been easier…)
• Heavy duty stapler (Can be useful for stapling screen material to prevent wasps from going under the shed, and can be useful for installing landscaping fabric)
• Paint Sprayer (I did have this luxury from a past project — nice to have, but I don’t recommend buying it and figuring it out just for this)
• Palm Nailer
• Saw table (I don’t have one and didn’t use one. A circular saw works, but if you have one already it’d be useful…)
• Roofing safety harness (Again, I used different methods, but it would have been nice)
• Router (For cutting out window/door panels)
