I’m Brett. I live in Utah with a beautiful wife and (*gasp*) five great kids.
Also…
I like projects.
…Or sometimes I need to do projects.
Or more realistically, probably a healthy mix of both. (I also really like it when projects are DONE!)
I didn’t really know I liked projects until I found out that I kept doing more and more of them. So … I must like them. Right? […RIGHT?…] Oh, there have been plenty of moments in them that I question my sanity for starting yet another one, as I find myself trying to cut through 4″ of a concrete floor with a saw. And yet, I start it up again, and find more to do.
Honestly, I think much of that just comes with the common intersection of home ownership (“The money pit”) and frugality (“Put a plug in the money drain”). But I’ve loved the learning process. And in the end, my wife and I are really glad that we did the projects (though I could have done without the concrete dust in every crevasse of my house and my soul). I love that I have the confidence now to tackle so many home projects because I know how it fits together … and maybe more importantly, I know how to fix it if it goes wrong.
I’ve used online resources for many projects I’ve done. It’s a great tool. But while much of it has been helpful, a lot of the resources have been presented by folks who are really good at construction and maybe lacking in their ability to show clear step-by-step instructions online. That’s where I hope to contribute to this grand online community of DIY-ers. I’ve learned a lot along the way and I want to contribute back in a way that provides clear information, but not so overly technical that it goes over the heads of us down-to-earth human beings just trying to keep our home working for us.
Most of my content is free for the taking. I hope it’s useful to you in your projects. Some content I will charge for to hopefully make this website worth my time and give my family a few extra dollars in the budget to buy the fancy brand of mac & cheese. 🙂
A few more things about me:
- I’m a registered nurse (yes, you read that right) but with a normal full-time desk job doing informatics work.
- I’m not outside in nature nearly as much as I’d like to be, or particularly as much as my kids would like us to be.
- I’m a beginner in the world of backpacking, and I’m loving it.
- I’m a struggling student of, imperfect follower of, and strong believer in Jesus Christ.
- I’m a student of science.
- I’m married to the most wonderful woman on the planet. (Sorry. You can’t have her. I already got her.)
- I’m missing my left earlobe.
